AAEES counts CEE Associate Professor Leanne Gilbertson in its first "40 Under 40" list

The University of Pittsburgh's Leanne Gilbertson was recently named one of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists’ (AAEES) 40 Under 40 winners.  Gilbertson, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering in Pitt's Swanson School of Engineering, is among AAEES' inaugural 2022 class recognizing talented individuals who have, either personally or as part of a team, been responsible for helping to advance the fields of Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering in a demonstrable way within the last 12 months. Winners are chosen by a panel of past recipients who weigh equally business successes and civic/philanthropic activities.

“The collective contributions of this AAEES 40 Under 40 class to the field of environmental science and engineering is incredibly impressive. It is an honor to be amongst esteemed colleagues”, Gilbertson said. Her research focuses on sustainable material design to support sustainable solutions for water disinfection, food production, and antimicrobial resistance.

“We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Gilbertson has been named a 40 Under 40 winner in our inaugural class. She is a shining star in today’s engineering world,” said Ilyse Shapiro, Executive Director of AAEES.
