Andrew Zmolek '12 captures first place at AIChE regional poster competition

PITTSBURGH  (April 17, 2012) … Andrew Zmolek '13, a chemical engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh's Swanson School of Engineering, received first place at the 2012 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Regional Student Conference's research poster presentation. The Conference, held April 13-15 at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, attracts hundreds of chemical engineering students from 35 Mid-Atlantic universities to share technical knowledge, vie for prizes, network with each other, and meet with industry professionals. 

Mr. Zmolek competed against students from other Chemical Engineering Departments in throughout the region including students from Bucknell University, Johns Hopkins University, and West Point Military Academy. His poster research presented an analysis on how released therapeutic peptide products interact with their polymeric controlled release systems, which he will continue through a Brackenridge Fellowship this summer at Pitt. Mr. Zmolek is co-advised by graduate students Andrew J. Glowacki and Stephen C. Balmert, and is an undergraduate researcher in  S.R. Little Laboratories  ( Steven Little, PhD , assistant professor).
