PITTSBURGH  (October 31, 2011) ... The renovation and expansion of Benedum Hall, including the construction of the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation, was one of this year's recipients of the Design Pittsburgh  award, presented by the  American Institute of Architects (AIA) Pittsburgh . This year's event was held at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture on Wednesday, October 27.

Design Pittsburgh is a signature program of AIA Pittsburgh and celebrates architecture and design. Each year, AIA Pittsburgh hosts the Design Awards Competition open to any member of AIA Pittsburgh, AIA Middle Pennsylvania or any member of any AIA chapter across the country who has a project in the ten county area represented by AIA Pittsburgh. The mission of the awards is to recognize and honor architects and designers, and promote excellence, innovation, and achievement in the craft of architecture.
