Dr. Piervincenzo Rizzo receives 2012 Achenbach Medal from IWSHM

PITTSBURGH  (May 31, 2012) ...  Piervincenzo Rizzo, PhD , assistant professor of structural engineering and mechanics in the Swanson School of Engineering's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been named the recipient of the  2012 Achenbach Medal . Presented by the  International Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring (IWSHM) , the Achenbach Medal recognizes the outstanding contribution of a young investigator within 10 years of his/her PhD for outstanding research contribution in the field of Structural Health Monitoring. 

IWSHM will officially announce the award at the  6th European Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring & 1st European Conference of the Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) Society  in Dresden, Germany July 3-6, 2012. Dr. Rizzo will receive the medal at the September 2013 IWSHM Conference at Stanford University. 

The medal is named in honor of Jan Achenbach, professor emeritus (Walter P. Murphy Professor and Distinguished McCormick School Professor) at Northwestern University. His main fields of research are in acoustics, fracture mechanics and wave motion .
