IE students and alumnus capture national awards

PITTSBURGH  (May 24, 2013) ... The Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering announced that two upcoming seniors and an alumnus recently received national recognition.

Seniors Jonathan Fako and Gian-Gabriel Garcia were honored at the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Annual Conference in Puero Rico. Mr. Fako received the Harold and Inge Marcus Scholarship, which recognizes academic excellence and noteworthy contribution to the development of the industrial engineering profession. Mr. Garcia received the UPS Scholarship for Minority Students.

Osman Ozaltin MSIE '07, IE PhD '11, captured first place in the Pritsker Doctor Dissertation Award, recognizing research in industrial engineering. Dr. Ozaltin will be invited to present a paper on the dissertation at the Industrial Engineering Research Conference.
