Pitt Civil Engineering undergrad Nathan Schaeffer wins 2015 ASCE Student Leadership Award

PITTSBURGH (January 29, 2016) … The American Society of Civil Engineers has awarded Nathan Schaeffer, a civil engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh, with its 2015 Student Leadership Award. Schaeffer served as the president of the Pitt student chapter of the ASCE from 2014-15 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree this past fall.

The ASCE recognizes student leaders for a variety of achievements including their service as chapter officers, their ability to organize special events, and their interactions with university administration and ASCE sections. Nomination must come from a faculty member, a practitioner advisor, a department head or an ASCE section/branch office.

As ASCE student chapter president, Schaeffer organized the first civil engineering specific career fair at Pitt in conjunction with Dylan Soller, then president of the  Institute of Transportation Engineers student chapter. Schaeffer generated interest in local companies and encouraged students to attend. About 150 undergraduate students, 20 graduate students, and 27 companies attended the inaugural civil engineering career fair in November 2014.
