US News Short List ranks Pitt among six top universities in % of graduating seniors with internship experience

UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH NEWS RELEASE

PITTSBURGH  (November 30, 2012) ... The U.S. News Short List: College has ranked the University of Pittsburgh among the top six on a list of 10 national universities that produced the largest percentage of interns among graduating seniors in the Class of 2011. Of Pitt's 2011 graduating seniors, 59.9 percent held at least one internship prior to graduation.

The Short List: College is separate from U.S. News' annual Best Colleges and Best Graduate Schools rankings, but it uses a portion of the same data. The internship ranking was culled from 330 U.S. News-ranked colleges and universities that submitted internship data. Of those schools, 48 were national universities-defined by U.S. News as colleges and universities that offer a full range of undergraduate majors as well as master's and doctoral programs and are committed to groundbreaking research.

Pitt has long emphasized to its students the importance of internships for gaining a real-world perspective on professions. In August, the University's Office of Career Development and Placement Assistance unveiled an initiative that guarantees every undergraduate the opportunity to experience an internship. Any registered Pitt undergraduate on the Pittsburgh campus is eligible to participate in the Internship Preparation Program, which is the first step in a student's obtaining an internship placement.
