Helping to chart a new path in fundraising and supporting the nearly 30,000 alumni for the Swanson School of Engineering, the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement announced that Cindy Liberatore will be joining PAE as the next Executive Director of Development for Swanson School of Engineering, effective Monday, November 1.

“Cindy is an experienced development and fundraising leader with more than 15 years of experience as an innovator in areas of fundraising, marketing, and public relations,” noted Danni Piccolo, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Individual Giving, Schools and Centers. “As the University celebrates 175 years of engineering education at Pitt, we’re excited that Cindy will be able to build from this tremendous milestone and engage an even broader excitement in our Swanson School of Engineering.”

Liberatore currently is Executive Director of Development WVU Medicine Children’s for the West Virginia University Foundation. Prior to being promoted to Executive Director of Development, Liberatore served as Managing Director of Development for WVU Medicine Children’s and led a team of 8 employees to secure more than $5 million in annual revenue toward a $60 million capital campaign for a new Children’s Hospital.

“The Swanson School is excited to have Cindy join us as we finalize our strategic plan and reimagine our global community of Pitt Engineers as “lifelong learners” more so than traditional alumni,” said James R. Martin II, U.S. Steel Dean of Engineering. “There is also tremendous opportunity to expand our philanthropic outreach to attract greater funding in support of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, facilities, and more. I look forward working with her on day one to grow our engagement opportunities.”

Liberatore earned her BA in Journalism and Mass Communication from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia and is expected to complete her MA in Corporate and Organizational Communication from WVU in December 2021. She is a board member of PathWays Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania in Washington, PA.
