ECE Professor Brandon Grainger to Become Associate Editor for AIP Advances

ECE Associate Professor Brandon Grainger will assist the journal in articles tied to electrical power engineering

Brandon Grainger, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and Eaton Faculty Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering, is helping connect the physics and electrical engineering communities in this new position.

Grainger, in addition to his responsibilities at the Swanson School, will serve as an associate editor for AIP Advances, an open-access, multidisciplinary journal covering all areas of physical sciences.

“One of the key roles of an associate editor is managing the reviews of the journal articles that are coming in to AIP advances,” Grainger said. “I will receive the articles and attempt to find reviewers that are qualified to read and assess the articles. Once a satisfactory number of reviews are done, I’ll act as a liaison between the reviewers and editor-in-chief to make a decision on the article in its current state.”

Grainger has edited and written for publications and organizations like the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in the past; however, they were centered mostly on electrical engineering. Leadership at AIP Advances, a physics-based publication, saw Grainger fit for the role because the journal has been receiving a large amount of articles tied to electric power engineering and needed someone familiar with the domain to handle them.

“For example, a team might be studying solar photovoltaic systems, and often, researchers can be challenged with finding the right journal to submit to,” Grainger explained. “It can be physics or electrical engineering depending on what is being explored in the article. The AIP Advances journal is creating an opportunity to fill this niche within energy engineering.”

Grainger will be starting the position this fall.
